Police have released a CCTV image of a woman suspected of robbing a woman who had been to a convenience store on her way home from work.
At about 6.45pm on Friday 12 October 2012, a 55-year-old woman was leaving the Tesco on Manchester Road in Chorlton.
When she was approached she was putting shopping bags in her car, which was parked on Claridge Road.
The offender shoved the open car door against the victim, and shouted "Police!", holding her mobile phone up.
The victim then pushed back and the offender then threw punches at her. She then pulled her at her handbag, which made the victim fall to the floor.
While the victim was on the floor, the offender kicked her to the body, having already banged her head against the kerb.
The offender then took the victim's purse out of the handbag, and ran away, despite the victim's efforts to restrain her.
The offender is described as being a black woman, in her late 30s and of slim build. She had short black hair and spoke with a Manchester accent.
She was wearing a dark hip length jacket.
Detective Constable Andy Willetts said: "The footage has been taken from inside the Tesco store, which would suggest that the suspect was lurking around the entrance before this attack.
"The woman was left with a number of bruises and also left badly shaken up. It was hard for her to defend herself as her arms were tied up with shopping bags.
"As dark nights are setting in, we ask that women going to and leaving work remain vigilant and are well aware of their surroundings.
"I would urge anyone who recognises the woman in the image to call police as soon as possible."
